Purpose
The VAM Web site provides access to the VAM system and related information.
Specifically, this Web site provides: (1) A secure login zone to enter the VAM system; (2) the ability to request personal login information in a secure manner; (3) the ability to initiate a user specific search upon assets; (4) the ability to initiate a user specific asset dispatch request; (5) the ability to initiate a template request; (6) the ability to initiate a catalogue request; (7) information related to providing files to be loaded to the VAM system; (8) the ability to contact VAM representatives electronically and information to contact them physically; (9) a user application form; (10) a new client application form; (11) frequently asked questions; (12) a link to the MH NZ LTD Web site; (13) an about us page; (14) a link to the VAM Central Web site; (15) terms & conditions; (16) security & privacy; and (17) site information.
MINIMUM HARDWARE & SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
To use VAM™ effectively you may need to download and install some free software from the Internet and/or change some application settings depending on how your computer is configured. The following sections cover the minimum advised hardware & software specifications for a client to run VAM™ at an acceptable level.
Minimum Hardware Requirements
Windows:
Intel Pentium processor
Macintosh:
PowerPC G3 processor
Linux:
32-bit Intel Pentium processor
Memory:
128MB of RAM (256MB recommended)
Internal Hard Drive with disk space available for file downloads.
Connection to the Internet:
You must have an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or a direct TCP/IP connection from your organization. 56 Kbps modem is the minimum, but is not recommended. (A 512Kbps connection is recommended).
Monitor:
16-bit colour monitor capable of 800 x 600 resolution (32-bit colour monitor is recommended)
Multimedia (This is applicable to clients that have sound and/or movie files in VAM):
A sound card with speakers or headphones
Minimum Software Requirements
Operating Systems:
Windows XP, Terminal Services 2002, Vista or Mac OS 10.4 and above.
Browsers:
This site is designed to be completely compatible with Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox (v2 and above recommended) or Microsoft Internet Explorer (v6.0 and above recommended); however, other browsers can also be used.
Email:
An email account is required to be a VAM™ user as communication through the system is electronically delivered.
Adobe Acrobat Reader (latest version available is recommended):
Adobe Acrobat Reader is available for download free on the Internet Adobe web site.
*Apple QuickTime Player (latest version available is recommended):
Apple QuickTime Player is available for download free on the Internet http://www.apple.com/quicktime/player/win.html.
*Windows Media Player (latest version available is recommended):
Windows Media Player is available for download free on the Internet http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx.
* This is applicable to clients that have sound and/or movie files in VAM and is dependant on what types of files are in VAM
INTERNET BROWSER SETTINGS
Force your Internet Browser to display fresh information every time you visit a web page by following the steps outlined below.
Internet Explorer Settings
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
3. In the Temporary Internet Files section choose Settings and then select Every visit to the page and Click OK.
4. While still in the Temporary Internet Files section click Delete Files then check Delete all offline content and Click OK.
5. Click the Security tab.
6. Click the Custom level button at the bottom. The Security Settings dialog box will pop up.
7. Under the Scripting category enable Active Scripting, Allow paste options via script and Scripting of Java applets.
8. Click OK and OK again.
Netscape Settings
1. Open Netscape.
2. Select Edit from the menu bar.
3. Select Preferences.
4. Click the arrow next to Advanced.
5. Click Cache and select Every time I view the page.
6. Click OK.
Mozilla Firefox
1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
2. Delete the address in the location bar and type about:config.
3. Click Enter to see the Mozilla Firefox settings.
4. Scroll down to browser.cache.check_doc_frequency.
5. Highlight and double click on it, if the setting is 3, change it to 1.
6. Close the window, exit and restart Mozilla Firefox to effect the change.
ADOBE READER CONFIGURATION
Configuring Adobe Reader 6.0
1. Start Acrobat Reader
2. Click on the Edit menu
3. Then select the Preferences menu option
4. This will bring up the Preferences dialog box
5. Select the Internet item in the list (located at the left of the dialog)
6. Check the Display PDF in Browser option (located in the Web Browser Options box)
7. Select the Startup item in the list (located at the left of the dialog)
8. Uncheck the Display Splash Screen option (located in the Application Startup box)
9. Click OK to save your preferences and close the dialog
10. Close Acrobat Reader

Note: Display of PDF files in VAM™ may be slow when Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0 is installed. We highly recommend that you upgrade to Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
Configuring Adobe Reader 7.0
1. Start Acrobat Reader
2. Click on the Edit menu
3. Then select the Preferences menu option
4. This will bring up the Preferences dialog box
5. Select the Internet item in the list (located at the left of the dialog)
6. Check the Display PDF in Browser option (located in the Web Browser Options box)
7. Select the Startup item in the list (located at the left of the dialog)
8. Uncheck the Display Splash Screen option (located in the Application Startup box)
9. Click OK to save your preferences and close the dialog
10. Close Acrobat Reader
PROXY SERVER SETTINGS
*If You Have A Proxy Server This Is Very Important*
Disabling caching ensures all the information you view in VAM™ is current and is being displayed from the Internet and not from a server within your organization.
Follow these steps to see if you are connected to a Proxy Server.
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
3. Click on the Connections tab.
4. Click on LAN Settings...
5. If in the Proxy server section, the box next to Use a proxy server for your LAN etc… is selected your computer is connected to a Proxy Server.

If your organization has a Proxy Server, your IT Department will have to disable caching for our website: http://www.vam.co.nz or 203.97.89.163.

Fonts and Type Sizes
Arial and Verdana are the default fonts for this site. All browsers allow users to select specific fonts and type sizes for display. Some users select large type sizes for ease of reading, or specific fonts for personal tastes. The text and layout should not be adversely affected by a user's selection of alternative fonts and type sizes.
